  • Reached the finish of the Mare e Monti Sud hike This is also where you'll find the official sign declaring you've reached the end of the Mare e Monti Sud. From here, it is still another 45 minutes to reach the coast and the restaurants and cafes of Porticcio.

In Porticcio, you have various options. You could get a hotel right there. We stayed in the hotel U Paradisu, which is only a few hundred meters to the south, with it's feet in the water. A lot more luxurious than the gites, of course, but maybe you feel you've earned it. Book in advance, because they might not have a place for you otherwise.

There is also a large campsite in Porticcio. Ask about other options at the tourist information office, which you'll see as soon as you reach the beach. On the campsite, you can also rent cabins, very handy if you don't want to carry a tent all the way over the island for just one night.

Another option is to go to Ajaccio and get a hotel there. Again: book in advance!

Tired but satisfied, sitting in the harbour in Ajaccio In the summer months, there is a boat service (Navette Maritime) that crosses the bay of Ajaccio several times a day. You can buy a ticket and get on the boat right next to the Tourist Information kiosk. To go to Ajaccio costs you € 5 per person, a two-way ticket is € 7. This is possibly the fastest and cheapest way to go to Ajaccio, since there aren't a lot of buses and taxis are very expensive!
