You'll leave Porto Pollo by taking a very small path (pay attention to the markings, or you'll miss it), and climb up the hill towards Punta Contra Grossa (213 meters). The path bends to the right, and it is exactly at that point you'll have a great view over the Baie de Cupabia, with a nice little beach. If you take a look at the map, you will notice that you're going to walk on that beach later in the day. On the photo, you can also see a Genoese watch tower, called Tour de Capannella. During the period that Genua was in power on Corsica, they built a great number of these towers on Corsica. From every tower, the soldiers could see the other towers in both directions, and by lighting fires, they could send messages to each other.
From here the path descends and joins a soft road that leads to the village of Serra-di-Ferro (138 meters). In 1998 there was still a small post office in this village, useful if you haven't been able to find ATM's for a few days. There is also a small inn, called Chez Mathieu, where you can have a coffee.
