The start
The Mare e Monti Sud starts near Burgo, a small village along the regional D557 road. This road leads from the coastal town of Propriano towards the east. You can walk from Propriano (but that's not a very pretty stretch) or take a taxi.
About 1,000 meters to the east of Burgo, on the left side of the road, is the sign that indicates the official starting point of the Mare e Monti Sud.
It is also at this point that the Mare e Monti Sud joins the Mare a Mare Sud, another one of the Corsican hikes, which leads to Porto-Vecchio.
From the road, the route leads into the forest, and after a short climb, you'll find a path in the woods. If you follow this path for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, you'll reach the deserted village Maratu.
