  • The Information Panel at the starting point of the Mare a Mare Centre The bus ride takes a little over two hours, and that may include a short break for coffee at 10 AM. The photo you see here was taken at the information panel that marks the official start of the Mare a Mare Centre. You can see that the panel shows the walking time to the first few destinations.

The view during the climb to Serra di Fiumorbu The Mare a Mare Centre starts close to the coast, at a height of approximately 0 meters. The first 90 minutes are mostly flat terrain, on roads and paths, through the village of Asprivu, towards Sualellu. There you start to climb. The last hour the path takes you through a fores, and therefore you don't get a lot of views. The photo to the right was taken in a south eastern direction, just before we reached the final destination of the first day.

After about 3 hours you reach the little village Serra di Fiumorbu, having climbed about 460 meters. The route runs right by the gite, so it's not very hard to find.

The Gite d'Etappe in Serra di Fiumorbu The gite has a number of rooms, all with bunk beds. There are thin mattresses and pillows, and some blankets. If you have a tent, you can put it up behind the gite.

The village consists of nothing but a few houses, so you can't do any shopping there. You should order a lunch pack for the next day when you arrive. That way, the owner of the gite has time to shop for bread, cheese and meat.

When we were there (in 2003), we paid € 27 per person, which included dinner and breakfast. We paid an additional € 4 per person for a lunch pack.
